San Antonio- Yesterday was a celebratory day for former San Antonio Spurs guard Derrick White as he won his first NBA championship ring with the Boston Celtics.
During his five seasons in San Antonio, White averaged 10.8 points, 3.31 assists, and 3 rebounds. The 29th overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft was particularly known on the Spurs for moving the ball quickly, creating shots and establishing good spacing on the court. He was also known for being an aggressive, strong player on the defensive side of the ball.
Since he was traded to the Boston Celtics in February 2022, he has since made the NBA All-Defensive team two years in a row. This past season, he was ranked 8th overall in NBA for best defensive player. And as of yesterday evening, he added a new badge of honor- becoming 2024 NBA Champion.
It was no surprise to many Spurs fans that White achieved many accomplishments since he was traded to the Celtics. During his time with the Spurs, he was considered a fan favorite.
